Lessons Of Old

page6image256Through my fathers hand I learned the art of shrewdness and manipulation.
“Always be on the lookout,” he would say.
I was a secret operative and was scolded for being caught.
By observing shadows and reflections, I could watch them discreetly.
Most of these creatures you cannot trust.
When I’d get into scuffles at school, he’d pick me up and say
“Which hand did you use?”
After, he would smirk inside and see his own rebellious youth.

I was to be more observant than observation.

Though I am to become an owl preying over my environment-
I had to appear just as oblivious as the mouse.

  1. Cool… I really like that picture of the guys head. It resonates with your banner image. I tried my best to teach you at a very early age that this world was untrusting and unsafe. It’s what I experienced. It was my paradigm… Sometimes it still is. I was thinking about playing Aliens with you and your sister at the school yard the other day. Those are good memories.

I wonder if you attached any meaning to playing Aliens? I guess for me I was trying to teach you the element of surprise mixed with the unknown paralysis of fear so as to get a sense of your desire as my son to survive such an attack. Very unconventional child rearing, I know. Somehow, I thought it would serve a purpose to help you in a time (or times) of unknown circumstances. Thankfully, you showed great resourcefulness in maneuvers and speed while also laughing. I knew then that you where daring and had great courage to overcome whatever tried to defeat you.. Along with that, you laughed at danger! A great way to be…
